Bailey's Cat Pain Relief Story

Recovering and Cat Pain Relief

Bailey is a young male neutered longhaired domestic cat of only 9 months of age. He came to this rescue place together with his mother a few months ago, but would never really enjoy a kitten's playful life.

cat BaileyHe could not lift his tail properly and was walking with a hunched back.

He was not able to straighten his hind limbs, so he would walk carefully with limbs bended in the pelvic and hock joints.

Bailey would not take part in typical activities other cats and kittens played and he never jumped up. He slept a lot more than cats of his age.

On palpation of his back muscles I found them very tense in the lumbar and sacral area, also the gluteal muscles of both sides were very tense and hard. The stifle and hock joints were not relaxed at all, so their range of passive movement was decreased.

Treatment Plan

The treatment plan for relieving Bailey's cat pain included at the first session one point along the Governer vessel (Bai Hui) and a massage of his lumbar, back and gluteal muscles.

One week later Bailey was already holding his tail half way up and the owners reported a big improvement in his ability to move and jump around. His behavior was more and more like a young cat behavior and he was getting cheekier every day.

The second treatment included dry needling of points on the Governor vessel (GV3, GV4 and BaiHui). Bailey seemed to enjoy this session very much.

Outcome

A week after this session the owners reported Bailey having changed so much.

His posture was no longer hunched up and his hind limbs were straightened out considerably. He was able to hold his tail straight up, he jumped up onto favorite places and he started to chase the dogs.

Musculoskeletal cat pain relief with acupuncture is quite successful, as cats are very good responders to this kind of therapy.

Baileys' quick response is probably due to his young age. Depending on the age and of course the individual condition, a feline patient may need more sessions to see an improvement.
