If You Spot These Cat Symptoms Take Immediate Action!

pet emergency

There are cat symptoms that should alert you to take action, if your feline pet is showing them.

Fractures

Broken bones are often present in cats and can occur in bones of the legs, the back and pelvis and also the neck. The main cause are road traffic accidents, where a cat is being hit by a car.

You can try to stabilize your feline companion in putting her into a secure pet- or cat carrier box that offers enough space for the cat to lie in and can be securely closed.

Bring your pet without long delays to your vet or an emergency clinic to ensure fractures are being stabilized professionally and to treat against shock and pain.

Try not to bandage your injured cat yourself, because you might be bitten or injuries might become worse, as your cat tries to hide away from you.

Skin Injuries

Open skin wounds, such as puncture wounds and lacerations are mostly a result of a fight with another feline or from your cat running away from wild animals.

If left untreated, they most often become infected and abscesses can develop. These are usually very painful and a cat will suffer unnecessarily.

Depending on where you live your cat might have escaped an attack from a snake, e.g. rattlesnake. Bite wounds are at first tiny, bleeding spots that are very hard to spot. In such a case it is vital to let a vet examine her for cat symptoms associated with snake bites and poisoning.

Choking

Choking is a scary cat symptom! Usually hairballs that sit somewhere in the upper digestive system will cause this frightening cough and noise that comes with a choke. But in some cases the cause may be a swallowed string or fishing line that is hooked up around the tongue or a tooth.

If your cat lets you open her mouth and have a look, you might be able to spot the string. If you are able to grab it, you can try to very gently pull on it.

Does it seem to be stuck? -- Don't pull any more, bring her to your vet immediately!

Vomiting in Cats

Nausea and vomiting is a cat symptom that is shown in a wide variety of diseases and illnesses. It can be caused by cat worms, hairballs, infections and diseases of the digestive system, brain injuries and tumours, failure of inner organs, like liver, kidney and pancreas and many more cat health problems.

As a general rule in very young or senior cats, let a vet check your kitten out and give her the necessary medical treatment, because otherwise dehydration and shock can be fatal.

An adult feline can be starved for 24 hours and then, if the cat symptoms of vomiting stopped cautiously be reintroduced to food. Always give fresh water, or better water with added electrolytes during that time.

If there is no improvement seen after 24 hours, you need to seek professional help and treatment for your beloved companion.

Feline Allergies

Cat allergies usually manifest in skin problems. Itchiness, red and inflamed skin, skin dandruff, pustules are most uncomfortable signs for your cat.

Cats can injure themselves in a very short time, when scratching especially behind the ears or overgrroming and licking excessively certain body parts.

To avoid serious secondary infections and suffering it is essential to let this check out as soon a spossible.

Cat Urinary Problems

The most frequent urinary problems of cats seen in practice are bladder infection and urinary blockage.

cat-symptoms

Both conditions are very painful and distressing and a blockage can lead quickly to lethargy and death.

Both symptoms look at first similar, so if you spot signs, take your cat without delay to your vet!

The main sign is frequent visits to the litter box and possible vocalizing, when your cat tries to pee.

Bladder infection comes with frequently peeing only small amounts of bloodstained urine. The cause is often a bacterial infection or a mechanic irritation of the bladder wall through a bladder stone or grid.

A urinary blockage is present, if your cat desperately tries to pass urine, but is not able to.

Cause is a urethra blocked with urinary grid and micro stones. Castrated, male cats are seen more often with this cat symptom and felines eating exclusively dry food and/or not drinking enough water.

A blockage of the urethra is an emergency and if left untreated it ends fatal.
