Maximum Benefit, Deductible, Coinsurance %

Their policies range from an annual maximum benefit of $2000, 5000 or 10,000 with annual deductibles of $100, 200 or 500. You can also determine the coinsurance percentage you want to pay, from 10, 20 or 35% per incident.

The accident-only policy comes with a $5000 annual maximum and an annual $100 deductible and a 10% coinsurance part.

Age Limits

Pets of any age will be eligible for the accident-only plan.

Age restrictions for the full cover plan (accident and illness):

• Dogs
• mixed breed: must not be older than 8 years
• pure breed: must not be older than 6 years
• Cats
• mixed breed: must not be older than 10 years
• pure breed: must not be older than 8 years

Other restrictions:

Pets with symptoms or diagnose of Diabetes or Cushing's disease will not qualify for the full cover plan.

Wellness Option

This does not work like an insurance cover, but a $200 extra that costs you currently an additional $14.95 per month can be spent towards routine care procedures.

Included is spaying, neutering, routine diagnostic tests, regular teeth scale ad polishing, vaccinations, titers, visit to your vet surgery and flea-, tick- and heart worm prevention.

Prescription Drug and Dental Cover Optional Plan

Embrace pet insurance offers with this option cover for prescription pet medicines, such as pain medication, antibiotics, insulin, eye drops, ear drops etc.

It also pays towards oral and dental diseases, like gingivitis, mouth abscesses, periodontal problems, resorptive lesions in cats, cavities and, if associated with treatment of a disease, tooth cleaning and extractions.

Any pet that qualifies for the full accident and illness policy is also eligible for this option.

Waiting Period

The accident and illness (full cover plan) policy takes 14 days to become effective, but there is a 180-day-period until the policy covers orthopedic conditions. This can be reduced to 14 days, if you supply a clear Canine Orthopedic Waiver from your vet at your own expense.

Exclusions

You should study on the company's website the complete list of excluded problems and health conditions, once you got a quote for your pet.

Generally excluded are

• Pre-existing conditions
• Problems related to breeding, pregnancy and whelping
• Cosmetic surgery
• Injuries and illnesses caused by neglect, cruelty, fighting and racing or caused deliberately by yourself or by a person who lives in your household
• Organ transplant
• Cloning
• Costs for cremation, burial
• DNA testing
• Artificial limbs and devices and motility aids

Chronic Health Problems – How are these covered?

Chronic health conditions needing ongoing treatment are covered by the Continuing Care Cover that is included into every policy.

They provide cover after the initial diagnosis in subsequent policy periods with 25% of the policy's annual maximum benefit.

If you purchased a policy with an annual maximum of $5000, they pay towards the treatment of chronic problems $1250 (= $5000 x 0.25) per annum in subsequent years.

Pre-existent Health Problems

This pet health insurance company publishes on its website a list of what they consider curable and what not and define pre-existent health conditions according to it. Also they encourage you to send in a medical record for review, once your pet is enrolled with them.

Hereditary and Congenital Conditions

Hereditary and with born conditions are covered by Embrace pet insurance plans. They list the most common breed-specific conditions, like elbow- and hip displasia, cancer, allergies and patella luxation and inter vertebral disc disease.

Reimbursement

On its website they state that they do reimburse applying usual, customary and reasonable fees, but only in cases they feel a vet bill charges extremely high fees.
