How Is Feline Diarrhea Caused
By Cat Parasites ?

Feline diarrhea is a frequently seen symptom caused by intestinal parasites. Giardiasis, Trichomoniasis and Cryptosporidiosis are common protozoic diseases that cause heavy diarrhea, weight loss, dehydration and in some cases, death.

Hookworms

Intestinal cat worms, especially roundworms and hookworms are often present in young kittens, as their larvae can be passed on via placenta and/or the milk.

Therapeutic worming can help to stop loose stools and should be done routinely to avoid severe complications in young kittens.

How do Intestinal Parasites induce Cat Diarrhea ?

Cat worms and their migrating developmental stages can cause inflammation of the intestinal mucosa, or even the whole gut wall, through mechanical damage.

Hookworms damage the gut lining during blood sucking considerably. Worm larvae migrate through the gut wall into other organs and tissues or embed themselves as cysts during a “hibernating” stage of their life cycle.

This local inflammation can spread easily onto whole gut sections. Inflammation induces increased secretion of fluids into the gut.

More fluid within the intestinal lumen and inflamed sections of the gut wall will speed up peristalsis and shorten the passage time of stools considerably.

Less time for re-absorption of fluids from the large bowels will result finally in very loose faeces or diarrhea.

Treatment of Feline Diarrhea

Cat diarrhea caused by feline parasites is treatable with effective cat wormer medication.

Cat de-wormer drugs are best bought through your veterinarian.

A fecal exam reveals what exactly causes the diarrhea and upon the diagnosis you will be given the most effective pet medication for your cat in the exact dosage according to a worming schedule determined by your vet.

Natural Remedies and Supplements

Beside giving prescribed drugs you can do a lot more to help your cat to overcome the health condition of feline diarrhea.

Probiotics (e.g. yoghurt with active cultures of Lactobacillus and Acidophiles or special probiotic powders or pastes you can buy) help to restore a healthy and balanced gut flora.

By giving herbal supplements and electrolytes intestinal peristalsis and motility and absorption of nutrients can be positively influenced and alleviate inflammatory processes.

Try Parasite Dr.™ , a plant based, very effective herbal remedy that helps to restore the intestinal flora and function and works as a detox and cleanse for blood and guts. Ingredients are:

  • Wormwood (Artemisia absinthinium)
  • Cloves (Eugenia caryophyllata)
  • Neem (Azadirachta indica)
  • Herb of Grace (Ruta graveolens)
  • Rice powder as inactive ingredient

You can give your cat cooked or canned pumpkin, which is a fibre-rich matrix that will help to normalize gut peristalsis.
