The pericardium meridian in the horse reaches the skin surface between the fifth intercostal space and the medial side of the elbow.
It runs over the medial area of the elbow and axilla and turns thendownwards along the medial side of the biceps.
From there it travels in the horse and other equidae down the caudomedial side of the front leg to the accessory carpal bone and continues over the causal aspect of the metacarpus.
It ends between the bulbs of the pastern of the front leg in a depression. There are eight acupuncture points located on this meridian.
In small animals (dogs and cats) the pericardium meridian is located slightly differently and there are five acu-points on it.
Reaching the surface on the medial aspect of the fore limb at the cubital fossa and travels on the medial surface of the fore leg down towards the caudomedial side of the carpal joint.
From there it runs to the caudal side of the limb over the palmar aspect of the front paw and end on the ventrolateral aspect of the third digit.
Equine: Located between the fifth intercostal space and the medial side of the elbow over the ascending pectorales muscles.
Hoof problems, chest pain and pain in the axillary region.
Diagnostic Indication: Very important point for hoof problems, like navicular disease, hoof abscesses and pedal osteitis.
Equine: Medial area of the elbow in the cubital crease, medial side of the biceps tendon.
Small animals: Medial side of fore limb in a depression at the fossa cubitae, lateral to the m. pronator teres and medial to the tendon of m. biceps brachii.
Equine: Stomach pain, trembling, fever and fear.
Small animals: Elbow pain, vomiting, apoplexy and heatstroke.
Equine: In the groove between m.flexor carpi radialis and flexor carpi ulnaris, 5 cun above PC-7.
Equine: Pain in the front leg, epistaxis, heart problems and emotional stress.
Equine: In the groove between m.flexor carpi radialis and flexor carpi ulnaris, 3 cun above PC-7.
Equine: Forelimb and elbow pain, palpitations, fear, lack of stamina.
Equine: Medial aspect of the front leg, just in front of the chestnut.
Small animals: Between the tendons of m.flexor digitorum superficialis and m.flexor carpi radialis about 2 cun above the transverse crease of the carpal joint. This point is the connection between pericardium meridian and triple heater meridian. Below thie PC-6 is the meridian artery and nerve.
Equine: Very important for the throat, heart, shoulder, chest, pain and swellings on the medial area of the front leg, stomach pain (gastritis) and emotional stress.
Small animals: This is an important distal acu-point. Problems of the cardiovascular system, epilepsy, neurotic problems. Also stomach inflammation, ulcers, disturbances and vomiting. Disorders within the cranial abdomen.
Equine: Cranial to m. extensor carpi ulnaris at the level of the accessory carpal bone.
Small animals: Above the radial carpal bone, behind the tendon of the m.flexor carpi radialis.
Equine: Local knee-point, dermatitis, stomach problems and fear.
Small animals: This is a sedative point. Injuries of the wrist, behavioural problems.
Equine: On the caudal area of the superficial flexor tendon about two-thirds the distance of the leg distally.
Small animals: Palmar aspect of the front paw, on the medial area of the metacarpus above the third metacarpaophalangeal joint.
Equine: Inflammation of the tendon, bucked shin, anhidrosis, fear.
Small animals: Vomiting, stomatitis, convulsions, psychosis.
Equine: Between the bulbs of the heel on the front leg in the central depression.
Small animals: Third digit, ventrolateral at the nailbed.
Equine: Pain in the front leg, arthritis in carpal joint and fetlock, hoof problems, tendinitis. Also indicated to treat fever, hyperhidrosis, fear and lack of libido.
